Buchanan's first Black History program in 20 years was a huge success! All of the students and staff did a phenomenal job with their performances. The program took us through history by starting with the accomplishments of several people in Africa and continued up until today. The staff did a wonderful job of coordinating and working with the students. Enjoy some of the pictures from the program.

We were excited to have Junior Achievement Volunteers conduct lessons to all of our K - 5 classes! Lee High ROTC students presented the lessons to our K-2nd students and JA volunteers conducted lessons with our 3rd - 5th students. It was truly a rewarding experience for our students.
The pressure was on at the school's National Geographic GeoBee last week but the students persevered and showed how hard work pays off! Students sacrificed their ancillary and recess breaks to prepare with Mrs. Nosacka. We are super proud of all participants.
Congrats to the top 3: 3rd place, Aadya S 2nd place, Dhruv A. and 1st place, Bhaskar M.

We at Buchanan found a few ways to give back during this Thanksgiving season. Our 5th graders gave to their fellow bobcats by presenting their Native American projects. Students and staff learned the importance of various tribes. The displays and demonstrations in costume made learning meaningful. The Beta Club wrapped up their food drive. A total of 996 pounds were donated to the Great Baton Rouge Food Bank! Lastly, we send our thanks to Aaron Young and his crew with Clients First Realty. They donated 50 turkeys with canned goods and came to the school this Tuesday before Thanksgiving to distribute them to our Bobcat families. We look forward to his partnership again soon. This is what the holiday season is all about and we wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving.
Our Bobcat students are busy even outside of school. Check out these students and their recent accomplishments that make us proud to brag:
Adam from our 5th grade participated in a spelling bee hosted by First Quarter Community Squadron. Guess what??? He placed FIRST!!! That's right, 1st place! This awesome feat was no surprise to us, as he was last year's school spelling bee 1st place winner and then 2nd place overall at the state regional bee!
Mrs. St. Julien, Assistant Principal, was able to attend this year's Deepawali ceremony at Southern University. Many of our own Buchanan students were part of the presentations and performances. The photo below on the right shows 5th grader Aadya S. singing beautifully with her mother. Many thanks to Dr. Trivedi for always inviting the Buchanan staff and educating the staff and students on the significance of this beautiful Indian tradition. Deepawali or Deewali has its origin is Sanskrit meaning row of lamps/lights. The celebration of the festival of light signifies the victory of light over darkness and the victory of good over evil. Sangamam is a Sanskrit word which refers to amalgamation, joining, or bringing together of people, cultures, or things.
Lillian Qian put her math skills to the test and it payed off! She placed 4th in this year's Louisiana Elementary Math Olimpiad! She gives her best in class each day but in this competition she took grit and quick problem solving to the next level!
Our teachers created Spook-Tackular Math & Science Stations for our students and parents. It was a huge success! The students created chemical reactions, lego math and STEM activities!
